Black Friday 2016 Uk People Set To Buy Products Worth 1.96 Billion}

Submitted by: Shay Ramani

Black Friday, more famously known as the biggest shopping day of the year, is around the corner. As the day marks the beginning of Christmas shopping, merchants leave no stone unturned to allure the customers with huge discounts and special deals for the big shopping day. It would be a four day weekend sale starting from Friday 25th November and ending on the Cyber Monday that is the 28th November.

You will find great deals everywhere, be it the online daily deals website or high streets or supermarkets.

Trade experts at VoucherCodes and the Centre for Retail Research forecast that British shoppers would be spending an eye watering 1.96 billion on Black Friday 2016. They say that there would be a 19% increase in sales than what it was last year.

Popular items that are expected to see high sales in the UK are computer games, gadgets, clothes and more. A survey concluded that the day will see massive sales worth 2,313,760 per minute. Moreover, the trade prediction says that this year the shoppers from the UK will contribute to 60% of total Black Friday sales in Europe.

Another important trend seen over the years is that shoppers are choosing online shopping over purchasing stuff from brick and mortar shops. This year, it is expected that 30% of the shoppers would be buying stuff online while 63% shoppers would be buying from the concrete shops. Statistics suggest that online shoppers would contribute to a sale worth 1 billion, while shoppers on the high streets would bring up the total to 961m.

Such monstrous sales figures are possible as the Brits show a trend of strong affinity towards mCommerce. More and more people are buying things from their mobiles and tablets than their desktops. Reports suggest that around 59% of people would be buying things from their mobile phones on this Black Friday. In the monetary sense, we can say Brits would purchase items worth 591 million through their smart phones and tablets.

What would people buy on the Black Friday?

Well, if we look at the annual trends, then it is found that people buy everything, including Christmas gifts, household items, gadgets, toys, TV and more. A survey by YouGov concludes that 29% of Brits are planning to buy big items and it has even given some more data to ponder upon the sales of the Black Friday.

64% would buy gifts

40% would choose DVDs, computer games and books

37% would go for clothes, shoes and accessories

29% would be buying home electronics

29% plan to buy personal gadgets

28% would choose cosmetics and perfumes

22% are expected to buy toys

22% are ready to buy furniture and household items

13% show interest in buying alcohol

While 8% plan to buy food items

Merchants have already started preparing their online stores and regular stores for the big shopping day. Amazon is offering a 13 day sale, which would end on Friday, November 25th. If you are not in a hurry to buy things now then wait for the Black Friday sale to get the best stuff at the least prices.

NZ man stabbed in the face with a 15-centimetre knife

Friday, July 7, 2006

A 36-year-old man, who is yet to be named, is undergoing surgery after an attacker lodged a knife through one cheek and out the other. The handle broke off, leaving the 15-cm (about 6 inches) blade inside him. The man was rushed to hospital today, July 7, at about 2 a.m. NZST. The attack occurred last night after a domestic row in Albany on Auckland‘s North Shore.

New Zealand Police report that the knife just missed his optic nerve and his condition is stable and not life threatening.

John Chaplin, head and neck surgeon said, “the man could be treated relatively simply. The major blood vessels of the head were further back in the neck and the knife could be relatively easily removed in an operating theatre where bleeding could be controlled.”

The police have issued an arrest warrant for Vance Paraki Tuheke, 31-year-old, in relation to the attack.

The victim may suffer from some facial numbness.

Fuel leak prompts 17,000-vehicle recall by Toyota

Sunday, June 27, 2010

Toyota announced on Friday that it will recall around 17,000 Lexus vehicles in response to risks of the fuel tank in the cars leaking after a collision.

The Lexus HS 250h model was subjected to the recall following a US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) investigation. Despite previously passing Toyota safety inspections, the conclusions of an NHTSA sub-contracted investigator were that; when the vehicles in question collided with an object at more than fifty-miles-per hour, more than 142 grams of fuel, the maximum allowed by US law, leaked from the crashed car.

According to Toyota, further tests did not show any additional failure of the fuel tank.

In response to the findings, Toyota issued a recall of all affected vehicles, since the company had no solution immediately available. The recall includes 13,000 cars already sold, as well as another 4,000 still at dealerships.

Toyota says it plans to conduct further tests to determine the cause of the leak. A Toyota spokesman, Brian Lyons, said that the company was “still working to determine what the root cause of the condition is.” It’s still unclear when exactly the recall will take place, or when dealerships will be allowed to sell this model again. Lyons said that Toyota is “working feverishly to get this resolved as soon as possible.”

Toyota isn’t aware of any accidents stemming from the leaking fuel tank in the affected vehicles, first introduced in the summer of 2009.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas cuts ties with Israel

Sunday, March 2, 2008

The President of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas has cut all diplomatic ties and relations with Israel including any and all communications.

Abbas made his decision after recent Israeli crackdown on Palestinian militants has left over 100 people dead and dozens injured. On Saturday March 1, 70 Palestinians were killed in clashes. At least two soldiers of the Israeli Defense Force were also killed.

Abbas says that he will continue his silence towards Israel until “all aggression” against Palestine is stopped.

“The negotiations are suspended, as are all contacts on all levels, because in light of the Israeli aggression such communication has no meaning. The Israeli government has decided to prosecute an unjust war and the open slaughter of our people. It bears sole responsibility for the hindering the peace process and all the effects and consequences of this decision,” said Nabil Abu Rudeina, a spokesman for Abbas in a statement to the media.

According to reports by Africasia quoting Agence France-Presse (AFP), Israel calls the move by Abbas a mistake.

“Suspending peace talks is a mistake and it gives the keys to the negotiations to Hamas,” said an Israeli official to AFP who was not named.

The United States among other nations have called for Israel to stop its strikes, but Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said that “nothing will prevent us from continuing operations to protect our citizens.”

Moscow celebrates Victory Day with military parade

Monday, May 11, 2009

On May 9, Moscow heralded its celebrations of Victory Day with one of the largest military parades seen since the fall of the Soviet Union through the Red Square and the streets of Moscow. Signifying the defeat over Nazi Germany in 1945 in World War 2, Victory Day continues to be one of the most poignant and emotional celebrations and national holidays in Russia. Estimates of more than 27 million lost lives during the war continues to leave a vein of sadness in Russia.

Victory day began early in Moscow with inner city streets being closed from 6am and the major entrance of Tverskaya Ulitsa completely locked down with all access to non-military blocked until the end of the parade. Tens of thousands of people lined the upper parts of Tverskaya to see the exit of the military as well as the air force fly-over on their entrance to Red Square. In total more than 9,000 troops, 69 planes and a huge collection of armored vehicles, tanks, and massive anti-aircraft missile defense systems ensured that Moscovites and the rest of Russia will remember Victory Day 2009.

In scenes reminiscent of the end of the war military bands played around the city until all hours of the night. At Leningradsky station departing veterans and widows danced and celebrated with younger generations whilst loudly singing the national anthem. As trains departed, staff handed out flowers in recognition of the contributions made and loud cheers were heard across the many platforms. In a touching event it seemed to bond the generations of yesterday and today.

Preparations for the military parade began months ago with regular rehearsals in Alabino including the erection of a mock Red Square and Kremlin to ensure authenticity. Final dress rehearsals took place in Moscow on May 7 including a full practice of the air show. On display for the first time was the S-400 air defense system which is capable of intercepting airborne targets at ranges up to 400 kilometers (249 mi).

Following the official parades and ceremonies, Red Square and the the inner city was opened to the public, albeit under extreme security and an ever watching eye from Interior Ministry troops. During the afternoon there was an estimated crowed of over 100,000 which entered Red Square to admire the parade ground and decorations, including the official stand for the dignitaries.

Closing the festivities was a series of fireworks in fourteen different locations throughout Moscow including the grand display over the Kremlin and Red Square.

PayPal receives banking licence

Tuesday, May 15, 2007

The online payment service PayPal has received a banking licence in Luxembourg, promoting it to the status of a bank. As a consequence PayPal will move their headquarters to Luxembourg.

Since 2004 PayPal had the status of an Electronic Money Issuer supervised by the U.K. Financial Services Authority. Having an official bank status opens new prospects for the company: “This will allow us to actively scout retailers in different European countries. With our British licence, we could only do that in the U.K. itself, and in other countries we could only react to requests of the retailers themselves,” Christopher Coonen, General Manager of PayPal Southern Europe and Benelux, explained.

The change will not affect existing customers dramatically, says Coonen: “We are going to inform them of the new status, and they will have to accept our terms of service again.” He also said that for now, there were no plans to use the new licence to offer traditional banking services, but the possibility was being evaluated by PayPal. Working with local partners would be an option to accomplish this, according to Coonen.

The British newspaper The Daily Telegraph speculates that the move is part of a strategy to compete with Google’s payment service Google Checkout, which launched in the U.K. last month.

PayPal has 130 million users worldwide, and 35 million customers in Europe. Payments via its mother company eBay continue to make up 60% of PayPal’s revenues. More than half of Britain’s internet users have a PayPal account.

Staying Within Budget On A Construction Project

By Steve Juzefyk

Reliable sources indicate that proper budgeting and management of construction projects reduces stress and saves money. With today’s emphasis on maximizing every dollar, careful planning that focuses even more attention on costs and energy efficient materials have changed the way individuals are viewing their construction projects.

Most construction projects begin with laying out a realistic budget with time frames and funds that are adequate to accommodate for any unexpected incidents. Suppliers and contractors may need some time to order materials or schedule crews, and for that reason, being flexible can often times earn a better price.

To avoid any unnecessary time constraints, experts stress the idea of shopping around in today’s buyer’s market for the best deals on materials before starting the project. Suppliers can usually offer discounts on overstocks or returns that are not available on new stock items. When this isn’t possible, give the supplier plenty of time to receive the materials before they will be needed on the construction site to avoid delays.

Going green with construction materials is designed to improve the environment and the results will save energy. While this may cost more upfront, the lifetimes savings in energy bills are worth considering. Bat insulation made out of recycled cotton or a vegetable oil based polyurethane spray is both free of volatile organic compounds (VOC’s) and chlorofluorocarbons (CFC’s).

Other ‘green’ areas to consider include low VOC paints, certified sustainable wood products, bamboo, tank-less water heaters and water efficient toilets and shower heads. Solar panels installed on the home and underground thermal heating systems can save staggering amounts of money on the energy bill. While some of these options may appear pricey at first, keep in mind that there are several tax incentive programs as well as discounts offered by some energy companies for the use of these revolutionary technologies. The idea is to look at every aspect of the project to see where energy can be saved and/or sustainability can be supported.

All projects should have an allowance for the unexpected. Discrepancies may be found during construction and remodeling projects will have an even greater likelihood of discovering problems during demolition. Experienced contractors suggest a reserve that is determined by the complexity of the project, and is usually somewhere between five and twenty percent.

Using a good project management tool will go a long way toward a successful project. It will help to lay out a chronology for the project as well as providing time lines and reminders of all of the steps necessary for completion. In addition, it is important to assign duties to avoid finger pointing or steps being missed. Regular reviews of progress and the next steps in sequence, along with plan or budget revisions, will keep everyone on task.

Many contractors agree that the easiest way to exceed the budget is by changing the plans or materials. This will incur change orders adding additional unplanned cost, so it is always best to decide for certain what you want before beginning a project. Quality and quantity of materials should be determined and adhered to in order to keep the project on time and on budget.

Having a well thought out plan and sticking to it is the surest way to a successful project.
