‘A very giant struggle’: North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s warning of oncoming economic difficulties

Thursday, December 2, 2021

In a talk made to officials at a meeting of the Political Bureau of the Workers’ Party of Korea held on Wednesday, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un warned officials of a coming “very giant struggle” in the economic field, reported Party newspaper Rodong Sinmun. Present at the meeting, which was held in the headquarters building of the Central Committee, were high-ranking party members and military officials, including Party Secretariat Secretary Jo Yong-won and Premier Kim Tok-hun.

The meeting, which had been convened to discuss details on the upcoming fourth Plenary Meeting of the eighth Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK), later released its resolution on said issue, with the last third of December being the chosen time frame for the Plenary Meeting and a review of Party work having been placed on the agenda, among other subjects.

At the Politburo meeting, Kim Jong Un said that “the successes registered by us show that the overall affairs that had been planned to lay a foundation for the economic development of the country and the improvement of people’s living standard have been vigorously pushed forward”, praising successes made in the agricultural and construction fields.

Kim followed by saying that “next year will be an important one as we should wage a very giant struggle as much as we did this year”, and that plans made for next year should “be dynamic, onward, scientific and detailed, and consolidate the foundation for implementing the five-year plan.”

North Korea’s economy has suffered as a result of various factors over the last two years, with a combination of COVID-19 border closures and heavier sanctions topping off a typhoon and heavy flooding. According to Al Jazeera, UN agencies are reporting food and electricity shortages which have been worsened by economic sanctions.

The New Open World Foundation will announce the results of the New Seven Wonders of the World election on July 7, 2007 (or 07.07.07). The ballot itself will close on midnight the day before. National Healthcare Benefits

Health care has been so much in the news lately and there has been so much discussion about it, most people probably have no idea how they may be affected. Here, in the United States, national health care has been basically, Medicare, for those over 65 (or disabled) and the state run, Medicaid, in New York, or similar program, in other states. In order to qualify for state medical aid, one must have virtually no income or assets. This type of system leaves many people in a difficult situation with their health care status. If they are not working at a company that provides medical coverage, not elderly or not dirt poor, you may have problems with medical care. National health care would help those who do not qualify for state aid and not eligible for Medicare or any other health benefit program through work or school. Many jobs provide access to a couple of health plans and cover part of the cost of enrollment, where the remainder, is deducted from the employee’s salary. Of course, how much is covered depends on the employer. When an employee leaves the job, they can be eligible for co-ordination of benefits rights act(COBRA) and still qualify for the reduced payment of the insurance coverage. National health care can provide either a wide range of medical insurance plans at affordable prices to the general public or direct assistance with medical claims and bills. It can also help people with more serious illnesses pay for expensive medications and lab work.

Gastric bypass surgery performed by remote control

Sunday, August 21, 2005

A robotic system at Stanford Medical Center was used to perform a laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery successfully with a theoretically similar rate of complications to that seen in standard operations. However, as there were only 10 people in the experimental group (and another 10 in the control group), this is not a statistically significant sample.

If this surgical procedure is as successful in large-scale studies, it may lead the way for the use of robotic surgery in even more delicate procedures, such as heart surgery. Note that this is not a fully automated system, as a human doctor controls the operation via remote control. Laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery is a treatment for obesity.

There were concerns that doctors, in the future, might only be trained in the remote control procedure. Ronald G. Latimer, M.D., of Santa Barbara, CA, warned “The fact that surgeons may have to open the patient or might actually need to revert to standard laparoscopic techniques demands that this basic training be a requirement before a robot is purchased. Robots do malfunction, so a backup system is imperative. We should not be seduced to buy this instrument to train surgeons if they are not able to do the primary operations themselves.”

There are precedents for just such a problem occurring. A previous “new technology”, the electrocardiogram (ECG), has lead to a lack of basic education on the older technology, the stethoscope. As a result, many heart conditions now go undiagnosed, especially in children and others who rarely undergo an ECG procedure.

Why Spend Your Valuable Time Trying To Collect Returned Checks?

By Pat McDavitt

You can let a bad check recovery service do it for you! When your customer bounces a check, your bank forwards the returned check to the bad check recovery service that you have chosen to represent you. The check is entered into a database and re-submitted electronically via the ACH network. If an item bounces again, the bad check recovery service then re-presents the check when funds are available.

You can even make a profit from your bad check recovery service. All that is required is that you post a notice stating that your customer acknowledges (by reading the posted notice of your policy for returned checks) that the maximum fee (less, if you prefer) allowed by the state that your business resides will be assessed for all returned checks. Then, when funds are available, you collect the face amount of the check. You then assess a second debit for the allowed state fee. Example: Texas allows a fee of $30.00 for returned checks. Your electronic bad check recovery service can collect the bad check electronically (Lets say the check was made for $150.00). Then, a second debit for $30.00 can also be collected electronically (total collected = $180.00).

Benefits of a bad check recovery service: Your customer does not have to:

bring you a money order or cashiers check.

[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8Y1xSorG3E[/youtube]

receive a threatening collection letter.

answer an uncomfortable phone call.

spend their time resolving the problem.

go through the embarrassment!

A bad check recovery service is much faster and more convenient than any other method available, and it will work on any bank in the US and its territories.

And now with a bad check recovery service collecting out-of-town checks (or electronic checks accepted from an Internet web site) has never been easier!

With a bad check recovery service, you can access your transaction reports via the Internet anytime24 hours a day 7 days a week. This online real-time reporting helps you reconcile your bank account and keep track of the money that your bad check recovery service recovers for you.

Your customers benefit because bouncing a check is an embarrassing thing to deal with in person. A bad check recovery service handles it for them quietly and confidentially. Your bad check recovery service notifies your customers bank of the transaction and adds it to their statement.

Successful businesses focus on their core business. A bad check recovery service solves their NSF problems so they do just that. They can FINALLY stop chasing down bad checks.

Arkansas becomes first US state to criminalise treatment for transgender minority

Friday, April 9, 2021

On Tuesday, lawmakers in the Republican-governed US state of Arkansas became the first in the country to ban specific treatment types to transgender youth under the age of eighteen, irrespective of parental consent. It is to become law at the earliest by the 91st day after the legislative session’s recess, or July 30.

While vetoed by the state’s governor Asa Hutchinson on Monday, House Bill 1570, or the Save Adolescents From Experimentation Act was overturned 25–8 in the state Senate and 72–25 in the House of Representatives, prohibiting any healthcare professional from providing puberty blockers, cross-sex hormone therapy or gender-affirming surgery to anyone under the age of eighteen, as well as referring them to other providers.

Representative for Arkansas’ District 87 Robin Lundsturm said “[t]hey need to get to be 18 before they make those decisions”.

This ban also applies to those minors who are already receiving such treatments. The punishment will be a loss of medical licence.

While praised by conservative organisations such as The Family Council, Governor Hutchinson called the bill “a product of the cultural war in America”. In a statement Governor Hutchinson said, “I do hope my veto will cause my Republican colleagues across the country to resist the temptation to put the state in the middle of every decision made by parents and health care professionals”.

The American Academy of Pediatrics, representing 67 thousand paediatricians nationwide accused the bill of depriving young people of the medical care they need. Medical director at the University of California San Francisco Madeline Deutsch said of transitioning treatment “[t]here’s a general consensus among professionals in this field” that “[t]here’s tons of solid science supporting this approach”, and division head of adolescent and young adult medicine at a children’s hospital in Chicago Dr Robert Garofalo called it as “perpetuat[ing] the very things we know are harmful to trans youth”.

Executive director of the Arkansas American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) Holly Dickson condemned the act’s proponents as “[disregarding] widespread, overwhelming, and bipartisan opposition to this bill and [continuing] their discriminatory crusade against trans youth […] to block trans youth from the care they need simply because of who they are is not only wrong, it’s also illegal, and we will be filing a lawsuit to challenge this law in court”. The institution is preparing for litigation; according to deputy director for transgender justice with the ACLU’s LGBTQ & HIV project Chase Strangio, “[w]e will always have your back and will be relentless in our defense of your rights.”

The bill’s passage comes after similar anti-transgender legislation in Arkansas and other states, including legislation signed by Hutchinson March 25 banning transgender girls and women from competing with their gender identity in sports, described by Dickson according to the AP as “discriminatory and shameful”.

After the lawmakers enacted this ban, pro-LGBTQ rights group the Human Rights Campaign said over 100 bills targeting transgender people have been filed, with bills of similar nature proposed in 20 states or more.

Borussia M’Gladbach sacks coach Schubert; appoints Hecking

Friday, December 23, 2016

Yesterday, German football club Borussia Mönchengladbach announce their appointment of Dieter Hecking as manager until 2019. Hecking’s predecessor André Schubert was sacked the day before, after one year of service at Borussia Park.

Mönchengladbach has won only one out of its last eleven Bundesliga matches this season. Schubert began as an interim manager of the first team after Lucien Facts resigned from the coach position last September. Schubert led Gladbach to the fourth spot in Bundesliga. Schubert’s last match as Gladbach’s coach ended in a 2–1 loss against VfL Wolfsburg and they are just three points ahead of the relegation playoff.

52-year-old Dieter Hecking began his coaching career in 2000 with a second tier club SC Verl. Hecking played most of his professional career matches in 2. Bundesliga.

In 2003–04, Hecking guided VfB Lübeck in DFB Pokal semifinal. He helped 1. FC Nürnberg avoid relegation in 2009–10 and finished sixth in the Bundesliga in the following season. In 2014–15, Hecking won the DFB Pokal and the DfL-Supercup with Wolfsburg and finished the Bundesliga season as runners-up. They qualified for last season’s UEFA Champions League. Hecking was sacked from Wolfsburg in October.

Mönchengladbach’s sporting director Max Eberl said, “We wanted to add fresh impetus after the developments of recent weeks with a new coach. Dieter Hecking is exactly the right man for that. He is a coach with a lot of experience, who has had a lot of success at different levels with different clubs” ((de))German language: ?Nach der Entwicklung der letzten Wochen wollen wir mit einem neuen Trainer einen neuen Impuls setzen. Dafür ist Dieter Hecking genau der richtige Mann, ein Trainer mit viel Erfahrung, der auf unterschiedlichem Niveau mit verschiedenen Vereinen sehr erfolgreich gearbeitet hat.
