Wikinews interviews Darcy Richardson, Democratic Party presidential challenger to Barack Obama

Friday, November 25, 2011

U.S. Democratic Party presidential candidate Darcy Richardson of Florida took some time to answer a few questions from Wikinews reporter William S. Saturn.

Richardson, 55, is a political activist that helped form the New Democrats in 1989 and founded the progressive Battleground Blog earlier this year. He is also a political historian, and has authored six books covering third parties and presidential elections, including A Nation Divided: The 1968 Presidential Campaign (2002). His current work, The Spirit of ’76: Eugene McCarthy’s Struggle for Open Politics, chronicles the late Democratic Senator Eugene McCarthy’s 1976 presidential campaign for which he volunteered. Richardson admires McCarthy, and served as manager for his 1988 presidential run. Recently, Richardson advised Brian Moore’s Socialist Party USA presidential campaign in 2008.

In addition, Richardson himself has sought political office, albeit unsuccessfully. In 1980, he ran for Pennsylvania Auditor General, and in 1988, vied for one of Pennsylvania’s U.S. Senate seats as a member of the Consumer Party. Last year, he ran for Lieutenant Governor of Florida as the running mate of gubernatorial candidate Farid Khavari.

Richardson has criticized President Barack Obama’s policies for being too similar to those of former President George W. Bush. He hoped to convince several prominent progressives to challenge Obama in the Democratic primaries, but none were available to do so. Last month, Richardson decided to begin a campaign himself and announced through his Battleground Blog that he would challenge Obama in the Democratic Party primaries as a progressive candidate. So far, he has qualified for the New Hampshire primary in January and the Missouri primary in February. In an interview with the Independent Political Report, Richardson proclaimed his campaign slogan as “no fourth term for George W. Bush.”

How To Pursue A Professional Golf Career}

Submitted by: JamesParker Web

Golf has recently become a much more popular game to the world of sports. In recent years the game of golf has also seen an increase as a career choice, as golf programs and golf schools around the country make it that much easier to enter into the field. Below you will find some tips on how to pursue your professional golf career.

Have Prior Knowledge of The Game: You need to be familiar with the game of golf when youre making the decision to have a golf career. This entails having a huge commitment to this sport and knowing everything there is to know about the rules, golf etiquette, how to play, etc. Before you do this though, you should be positive that this is what you want to do. Can you imagine yourself playing golf for a living? Do you find yourself spending countless hours on the driving range, practice green or course? If you do, then this if a perfect start for you. But if some of your worst moments happened on a golf course, or you think you might like a career in something besides golf, you might want to just keep this game as a hobby for the weekend with the guys.

Have A Backup Plan: You always want to have a backup plan. Its not impossible to succeed as a professional golfer, but yes it can be difficult. If it doesnt work out for you, it doesnt necessarily mean you cant pursue a golfing career in some way. There are many options, such as, golf instruction, golf facility management, golf business management, and golf equipment sales. These are all jobs that you can benefit off of for experience and education, and will also hopefully interest you almost as much as playing the game itself.

Get an Education from a Good School: No different from any other professional career, a good education is a must and very important in the golf industry. Golf schooling really opens up a lot of doors to opportunities that others who are seeking a professional golf career might not get. Having a golf degree on your resume also tells employers that you know that game and the business nature of the game, making you a more attractive pick over someone who would require more training in the field. The fact that you pursued an education in the business shows that you have already gained a lasting interest to the sport, whereas someone without that kind of background could decide in a month or two that golf just isnt the thing of him/her. This is one of the best ways to let employers know and prove to them that you want the job.

Gain as Much Practical Experience as Possible: Yes, a degree does say a lot about you to an employer, but so does your work history. The more work experience you get in the industry before you graduate, the better chance you have of finding a good job right out of school. A lot of different options are available to those who are pursuing a professional golfing career. Most golf schools have a lot of thriving internship programs that allow students to game valuable work and experience, while having an education at the same time. Your school, a lot of the time, may also be able to provide you with a long-term part time or fulltime job while you are a student.

Remember! : The whole point of pursuing a professional golf career is to be employed doing something you absolutely love to do. If you become to stressed out all the time or have a sense of urgency to make your education and career into more of a job, you could permanently destroy any enjoyment youve ever had for the game. Try to remember to always stay optimistic and make an effort to keep both work and school fun no matter what trials may face you ahead. And always remember whatever happens; dont forget that you are in this spot because you followed what you wanted to be.

Sweden’s Crown Princess marries long-time boyfriend

Monday, June 21, 2010

Sweden’s first royal wedding since 1976 took place Saturday when Crown Princess Victoria, 32, married her long-time boyfriend and former personal trainer, Daniel Westling, 36. The ceremony took place at Stockholm Cathedral.

Over 1,200 guests, including many rulers, politicians, royals and other dignitaries from across the world, attended the wedding, which cost an estimated 20 million Swedish kronor. Victoria wore a wedding dress with five-metre long train designed by Pär Engsheden. She wore the same crown that her mother, Queen Silvia, wore on her wedding day 34 years previously, also on June 19. Victoria’s father, King Carl XVI Gustaf, walked Victoria down the aisle, which was deemed untraditional by many. In Sweden, the bride and groom usually walk down the aisle together, emphasising the country’s views on equality. Victoria met with Daniel half-way to the altar, where they exchanged brief kisses, and, to the sounds of the wedding march, made their way to the the silver altar. She was followed by ten bridesmaids. The couple both had tears in their eyes as they said their vows, and apart from fumbling when they exchanged rings, the ceremony went smoothly.

Following the ceremony, the couple headed a fast-paced procession through central Stockholm on a horse-drawn carriage, flanked by police and security. Up to 500,000 people are thought to have lined the streets. They then boarded the Vasaorden, the same royal barge Victoria’s parents used in their wedding, and traveled through Stockholm’s waters, accompanied by flyover of 18 fighter jets near the end of the procession. A wedding banquet followed in the in the Hall of State of the Royal Palace.

Controversy has surrounded the engagement and wedding between the Crown Princess and Westling, a “commoner”. Victoria met Westling as she was recovering from bulemia in 2002. He owned a chain of gymnasiums and was brought in to help bring Victoria back to full health. Westling was raised in a middle-class family in Ockelbo, in central Sweden. His father managed a social services centre, and his mother worked in a post office. When the relationship was made public, Westling was mocked as an outsider and the king was reportedly horrified at the thought of his daughter marrying a “commoner”, even though he did so when he married Silvia. Last year, Westling underwent transplant surgery for a congenital kidney disorder. The Swedish public have been assured that he will be able to have children and that his illness will not be passed on to his offspring.

Westling underwent years of training to prepare for his new role in the royal family, including lessons in etiquette, elocution, and multi-lingual small talk; and a makeover that saw his hair being cropped short, and his plain-looking glasses and clothes being replaced by designer-wear.

Upon marrying the Crown Princess, Westling took his wife’s ducal title and is granted the style “His Royal Highness”. He is now known as HRH Prince Daniel, Duke of Västergötland. He also has his own coat-of-arms and monogram. When Victoria assumes the throne and becomes Queen, Daniel will not become King, but assume a supportive role, similar to that of Prince Phillip, the husband of the United Kingdom’s Queen Elizabeth II.

Heres The True Story Of A Million Dollar Producer

By Lew Nason

During the past 26 years my son Jeremy and I have had the distinct pleasure of helping hundreds of insurance agents, financial advisors and financial planners to go to the very, very top of the industry in life insurance and annuity sales. What follows is the recent success story of one of those people. Phil Calandra came 3 years ago to us after first attending the Missed Fortune TEAM Training, because he was struggling to make their system work. Here is his story, as he tells it

How Do You Earn Half-a-Million Dollars During Your First Year as a Financial Advisor?

By Phil Calandra, RFC

Hardly a week goes by without another financial planner, financial advisor or insurance agent asking me how I made half-a-million dollars during my first year of practice. Or, theyll ask how I earned close to a million dollars during my second year of work helping clients. I am going to tell you my true story. But, for me, the important story is how many people I have helped, not how much money I have made. It is all about how I helped my valued clients to earn more, achieve more, and advance toward their financial goals and objectives. That is the big picture and that is my priority. Assisting clients in resolving their money concerns that is what financial planning is all about for me.

Countless numbers of people have also asked me how I made MDRT during my first eight months in the life and annuity arena. Or, they ask how I made MDRT Top of the Table during my first full-year in the business. I am going to tell you what I did, plus what I didnt do, to achieve such a high level of success, so quickly. If you are serious about having a similar rewarding career as an advisor, then I urge you to get more serious with what you are doing.

When I decided to leave the corporate world in 2005, I departed a fat six-figure position with lots of perks and status. I wanted to help others in a very meaningful way. I wanted more servant leadership in my life. I did not want to push products and services onto trusting people. I no longer wanted to serve an ultimate objective that dictated: How much more can we get out of this customer?

For my lifes work I needed something far more different, something more satisfying, where I could be of real positive benefit and enjoy lasting personal relationships. Money was not the deciding factor for me. My successful experience was in corporate finance. I worked with many of the Fortune 500 companies in the USA. I traveled extensively and interacted with CEO types and top executives. But, I found myself longing for kitchen table type meetings where my skills could help real people. Middle class American citizens are largely ignored or exploited by our corporations, institutions, and organizations of all types. Our average American citizen is even exploited by our city, county, state and federal governments. Yet, they are the most important element of our society. They play by the rules but only keep getting shafted more-and-more. They and their children deserve much better treatment. I wanted to serve them, truly help them, and assist them in protecting the financial worth and improving their financial futures.

Later, when I became a financial advisor I did not target the super wealthy. And I never expected to make so much money from work that I dearly love. Every morning I rush to the office, happy, and eager for another good day of meeting wonderful people (both clients and prospects). My real sense of satisfaction comes when the client is pleased and sees the results they need.

I Invested In Myself

From the beginning, the one thing I knew I would have to do is invest in myself. The school of hard knocks would take too long to create and replace my existing lifestyle and income. So, I started seeking out training from the very best in the industry. I easily spent $15,000 on coaching and training materials in my first year. I went to Missed Fortune TEAM training (before I even had a license), the MoneyTrax Mentoring Program, and I purchased every life insurance and annuity marketing and sales program developed by Lew and Jeremy Nason at the Insurance Pro Shop. Lew Nason became one of my first real coaches, my mentor and a dear friend.

What Lew stressed is you must learn two things to be successful. 1. You are in the marketing business. 2. You are in the financial advice business, in that order. If you dont have the right people to see, you cant make it. Marketing is the key to always being in front of the right prospects.

And, if you want to make the kind of money that less than 1% of the advisors make, then you have to do what most arent doing. What many advisors are not doing is Doing what is right. If you put the client first and take care of solving their issues and concerns, your success will follow.

The most important task we all have, both in our business and personal lives, is to build true relationships. What is a true relationship? Well, it can be described in a number of ways. I believe it is a connection between two people that is sincere, uplifting, joyful, and continuously strengthened by trust and empathy. To build true relationships you must work at this connection and live by the premise: It is better to give, than to receive.

In our business, people buy from people they like and trust. You must understand the importance, right now, of expressing and giving of yourself to other people. Whether it is in your business life or your personal life, the customer or person you are trying to build a true relationship with, has to feel appreciated and loved. It is simply the Law of Attraction. When you give out, you will get back, eventually. Coach Lew told me early on: People dont care how much you know, until they know how much you care.

Prior to joining the ranks of the self-employed, I was a student of the great motivators and an avid reader of success literature. That universal law and truth has been taught for centuries. I remember my coaching calls with Lew recounting the great Napoleon Hill: What man can conceive and believe, he can achieve. What have you read lately? It is important to feed your mind and build your skills, so you are sharp for every opportunity to help your prospective client. And, as the legendary speaker and author Charlie Tremendous Jones puts it; You are the same today as you will be in five years except for two things: the people you meet and the books you read.

When I started I did not have a Project 100, I did not call my family, friends and acquaintances. I did not pitch one single corporate manager or executive that I had been in boardrooms with previously. I knew my strengths and weaknesses. I was an accomplished presenter and public speaker. The dinner seminar was my natural marketing method. Now, I was fortunate to have enough start-up capital to jump right into the business this way. However, you CAN do it without a bankroll or rich spouse, if you learn how to properly use Joint Ventures, Free Educational Workshops, Free Reports and other proven marketing methods to consistently attract the right prospects to you. If you want to reach the top, use your resources wisely and get going Start small, be consistent, and never quit.

I was told by Mr. Calmen Mendel, one of the all time great Northwestern Mutual agents, This is the poorest paying easy work I would ever do. It is tough, but the people in your community, no matter what niche you plan on serving, need you. The financial well being of our country is in a fragile state. We are in a recession proof industry and people need real solutions. Identify the niche you want to serve and become an expert at marketing and consulting to that group. The dinner seminar was key to me getting off to a fast start. I used every seminar mail company out there. The folks at Response Mail Express (Jennifer Lowery) and Seminar Crowds (Clyde Cleveland and Susie Zolo) taught my assistant and I the basics. We then made every mistake possible. But we stayed with it. I have now created multiple seminar presentations, and my assistant Jennifer will tell you, I am changing things constantly.

Once again, I learned everything I could from the top producers. Take the time and invest in yourself. Some of the best in our business are: Don Blanton, Karlan Tucker, Craig Randall, and Lew Nason. Listen and learn from them and then fit things to your persona.

Are you sending out client newsletters? Do you have a complete follow-up system for every aspect of your practice? Are you sending out greeting cards, birthday and anniversary cards? Do you have an assistant and staff to strengthen your capabilities? These are all things I learned and figured out from day one that you must do. You must pay attention to detail and give your very best to your clients, prospects and community. Take the time to train and develop yourself and the staff around you.

In future articles, I will share with you specific things to do immediately. They are the activities and things I did and still do, that have taken me to the top of the industry.

Retired U.S. vets sue Donald Rumsfeld for excessive service cutbacks

Tuesday, May 31, 2005

One thousand residents of the Defense Department-managed Armed Forces Retirement Home in Washington, D.C. filed a class-action lawsuit on May 24, asserting that the cut-backs in medical and dental services imposed by Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld are illegal. The operating budget for the home was reduced from $63 million in 2004 to $58 million for 2005. The residents cite cuts in on-site X-ray, electrocardiogram, physical and dental services, and the closing of the home’s main clinic and an on-site pharmacy.

Chief Financial Officer Steve McManus responded that the changes not only save money but also achieved improved efficiencies. “We’re really trying to improve the benefits to our residents,” he said.

Most of the home’s costs are paid for by a trust fund and monthly fees paid by residents. By law, the Armed Forces Retirement Homes are required to fund, “on-site primary care, medical care and a continuum of long-term care services.”

Telephone network access on iPhone unlocked by teen

Friday, August 24, 2007

George Hotz, 17, confirmed on Friday that he has cracked the lock that joins the Apple iPhone to AT&T‘s wireless network and was using it on T-Mobile‘s network—the only other major U.S. carrier compatible with iPhone technology. This crack opens up the phone, which is only being sold in the U.S., to use on overseas networks. “That’s the big thing,” said Hotz.

Hotz posted the complicated hack, which requires skill with both soldering and software and takes about two hours to perform, to his blog Thursday. He collaborated over the Internet with four other people, including two Russians, to develop the unlocking process that leaves all iPhone functions intact, with the exception of the “visual voicemail” feature.

With the hack available to the public, there is the possibility that some will buy U.S. iPhones, unlock them and send them overseas for profit. “That’s exactly […] what I don’t want,” Hotz said. “I don’t want people making money off this.”

Hotz said he wished he could have made the instructions so that users could modify the phones themselves. “But that’s the simplest I could make them.”

AT&T spokesman Mark Siegel said the company has “no comment” and referred questions to Apple.

A second phone, which was also hacked by Hotz, was placed for sale on eBay. He states at the auction site “Soon, you will be able to buy unlocked iPhones everywhere, in fact probably before this auction ends. But this is the one that started it all. The one unlocked while the steps were posted live on the blog. This isn’t just an unlocked iPhone, this is a piece of history.” Starting at $540, bids reached $99,999,999, although many bids were canceled as fraudulent. Before their removal, Hotz commented on the excessive bids, stating “I’m sure these most recent bids are fake.” The auction was canceled early by Hotz due to “an error in the listing”.

Web Development Trends In 2018}

Web Development Trends In 2018

by

kaviWeb developers are always busy trying to get an edge over their competitors when it comes to the utility of technology. They’re harnessing new frameworks, techniques, and tools to enhance their ability of developing more engaging and robust sites. Plus, with the advent of personalized devices like Smartphone’s, the web is getting more and more integral in our lives. We are using the web for nearly everything from shopping to banking to watching the news. The following web development trends will be the highlight of 2018 Artificial IntelligenceArtificial Intelligence (AI) is completing our lives. Most of the AI developments have been intended to make consumer processes smoother and easier. AI is more affordable, faster, and more practical evolving than ever! The developments at Wikipedia and Google are just the instances to show. The reason behind the growth of AI development is cloud computing and access to more data. Cloud computing has become more efficient and available than before, which offers power to companies and people to innovate with it. Researchers can access more data that means people can learn more new things in the AI field faster and efficiently.Internet of Things (IoT)Internet is no longer limited to just computers and mobile phones, it’s moving to our household appliances as well. Using apps on our Smartphone’s now, we can remotely turn on our heating equipment, switch on the light bulbs, and even process food well before getting home, Because of this, web developers are likely to develop applications that use, analyze, and display the devices’ data in order to communicate with IoT devices.Static Website GeneratorsStatic website generation is increasingly becoming a significant part of web developer’s toolkit. These generators are very handy, as they create websites from plain text, usually stored in files rather than databases. They are benefiting the developers in terms of security, speed, ease of deployment, and handling of traffic.JavaScript in 2018JavaScript is already in news due to its vibrant ecosystem of frameworks, technologies, and libraries. There are many fundamentals of JavaScript that developers need to grasp, such as ES6, Builtin methods, Closures, Functions and pure Functions, Promises, Classes, Callbacks, RAIL, Node and Express, etc.Angular 2 And BeyondThis year saw the release of Angular 2, which came with plenty of changes. Such include Google’s JavaScript framework that was redesigned completely. The new Angular takes advantage of the features if JavaScript ES6 and the applications are written in TypeScript that allows for a more component is driven architecture. The company also cites in this post that Angular now has a more flexible release schedule and that one major update, as well as three minor updates, should be expected every six months. It is safe, therefore, to say that 2018 will see many changes in this framework.GIFs and CinematographyThe cinema graphs are making a significant impact in terms of getting higher user engagement, which is why there is a wider adoption of this trend. The human brain tends to engage more with visual information and cinema graphs do exactly that. A creative video capture’s visitor’s attentions more than a still photograph. At the same time using cinema graph doesn’t weigh down the website load speed. The Graphical Interchange Format (GIFs), on the other hand, enables the developers to tell a story in far more effective way than could be with a still image. So, 2018 will see an increasing use of GIFs and cinematography.Refer morehttp://webdesigntraining.co.in/

Finnish police isolate ports in Helsinki

Saturday, August 6, 2005

The Finnish police isolated the ports of Katajanokka and Länsisatama on Saturday. The ports were isolated at around 9.30 p.m. local time and the isolation was called off at around 11.30 p.m.

They checked every truck that passed the ports with the assistance of the Border Guard Service. There are still two ships due to arrive in Helsinki tonight, but they were already checked in Tallinn.

U.S. Senate approves revised bailout package after controversial additions

Saturday, October 4, 2008

The U.S. Senate passed a revised bailout bill designed to help the struggling U.S. financial economy, which has measures nearly identical to the bill rejected by the U.S. House of Representatives on Monday.

“Senate Democrats and Republicans believe it is essential that we work quickly on this important legislation to restore confidence to our financial system and strengthen the economy,” said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

The new revisions include raising the FDIC insurance cap to $250,000, a move designed to please progressives. However, the $110 billion in tax breaks, earmarks and what has been called pork barrel spending is not offset by any increases in revenues and has added opposition to the bill from some Representatives in the House.

Earmarks added into the bailout bill included $192 million in tax rebates for the Virgin Islands rum industry, $148 million in tax cuts for the wool industry, $100 million tax cuts to the auto racing industry, and $48 million in Hollywood tax incentives.

Vice President of Taxpayers for Common Sense, Steve Ellis, offered his explanation for the pork and earmarks added in. “People who support some of these provisions will forget about the $700 billion and concerns they may have on that, and say, ‘If you give me a few million in tax breaks for my constituents, I’ll go along'”.

The tactic seems to have worked, however, managing to flip enough votes to pass the bill.

“The inclusion of parity, tax extenders and the FDIC increases has caused me to reconsider my position,” said Representative Jim Ramstad (R Minnesota), who voted against the previous bill on Monday. “All three additions have greatly improved the bill.”

But Representative Marcy Kaptur (D Ohio) was not changing her no vote. “I will not support this legislation because it’s the wrong medicine,” she said.

The Senate took H.R.1424, a bill originating in the House concerning “equity in the provision of mental health and substance-related disorder benefits under group health plans, to prohibit discrimination on the basis of genetic information with respect to health insurance and employment,” and extended it with the bailout provisions.

H.R.1424 was introduced on March 9, 2007, by Rep. Patrick Kennedy (RI-1) and had the support of First Lady Rosalind Carter. It is noted on the Congressional Website that “On 10/1/2008, the Senate passed H.R.1424 as the vehicle for the economic rescue legislation. In the EAS version of the bill (Engrossed Amendment as Agreed to by the Senate), Division A (pp.1-110) is referred to as the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008; Division B (pp. 110-255) is referred to as the Energy Improvement and Extension Act of 2008; and Division C (pp. 255-441) is referred to as the Tax Extenders and Alternative Minimum Tax Relief Act of 2008.” It was not treated as an appropriations bill in the House.

There were two votes in the Senate. The first was to amend H.R.1424, which required 3/5 to be accepted, which it was. The second was a vote on the bill. Passage of the Bill required only a 1/2 majority. It was passed with 74 yeas and 25 nays. Senator Kennedy did not vote.
